The Pacific Fusion Restaurant at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus in Suva, Fiji has received special commendation from guests for the services provided by Cookery and Hospitality.
A fully licensed training restaurant facility operated by USP’s Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) and Australia - Pacific Technical College (APTC); the Pacific Fusion Restaurant facilitates training as part of phase two of the course each semester, which is the operation of morning tea and lunch services at the restaurant.
Both internal and external stakeholders have provided excellent feedback about the services provided by the Cookery and Hospitality students.
Professor Raghuvar Pathak, Head of School of the Graduate School of Business (GSB), who in October 2016 held a celebratory dinner at the Pacific Fusion Restaurant, said the event was an important occasion for GSB and the Cookery and Hospitality programme students provided outstanding service during the event.
“The quality of food was top notch. Everything from starters, to dessert was excellent. It not only impressed us but our guests also. We would like to thank the team and friendly staff of the Pacific Fusion Restaurant for a wonderful service,” Professor Pathak said.
Luisa Matanisiga, Food and Beverage Training Manager at the Grand Pacific Hotel said the students performed very well at the hotel and played an integral part in the preparations leading up to an important event hosted at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
One of the biggest events hosted at Laucala Campus by Pacific TAFE was USP Council Dinner in November 2016 at the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies.
Pacific TAFE Director, Mr Hasmukh Lal said that students and staff of the restaurant received accolades from distinguished guests during the USP Council Dinner, and added that this is testament to the effective learning and teaching standards at Pacific TAFE.
As part of their training at Pacific Fusion Restaurant, the students are involved in real time hospitality service and cookery activities every week, each semester so that they attain required exposure.
The Pacific Fusion Restaurant is now open for morning tea and lunch service provided by Pacific TAFE’s Hospitality and Cookery students, as part of students’ practical.
