Construction of a new prison complex at Vai’a’ata on Savai’i is expected to be completed by June this year
The prison complex will cost $600,000 tala.
It will house 100 prisoners and an administration building.
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi performed the groundbreaking ceremony last week.
The project is part of the national initiative by the Samoa Prisons Authority to upgrade prison conditions in the country.
