Vaimea Primary School dedicates new hall

About 600 students are expected to directly benefit from the reconstruction project of Vaimea Primary School.

A grant of $261,757.60 sene from Tokyo funded the reconstruction of the oldest section of the current school building complex which houses two classrooms and a hall.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi on behalf of the people and government has thanked the Government of Japan in its continued assistance to the country.

At the dedication ceremonies for the new Vaimea Primary School, the Prime Minister complimented the Ambassador of Japan to Samoa Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki for their assistance.

"Your continuous support for education in Samoa is very much appreciated and I’m very happy that the support has been extended to the Vaimea community especially with its high enrolment number,” said the Prime Minister.

"Please extend to your Government our very sincere appreciation of your kindness through our various developments.

"The new hall will definitely provide more space for the teachers and students to carry out their activities."

"This project is the most evident manifestation of the firm friendship between Japan and Samoa and I remain hopeful that you will be encouraged to make best use of this facility," says Ambassador Maugaoleatuolo.

Vaimea Primary School is the first recipient to receive this grant assistance this year and in January the grant contract officially signed and approved.

The Government of Japan hopes that the reconstruction project endows the students within renewed sense of pride and enthusiasm for learning.

It also recognizes the importance of quality education for the younger generation as they are the workforce and leaders of the future.

Japan has continuously assisted its friendly Pacific neighbor, Samoa, and the reconstruction project of Vaimea Primary School is an added milestone in Japan’s ongoing GGP support and cooperation towards the Independent State of Samoa.

Japan has provided aid through this scheme for over 21 years and more than 165 projects.
