Australian champ laughs off Joseph Parker's approach

Australia's new WBA heavyweight boxing champion Lucas Browne has laughed off an approach from Joseph Parker's camp.

Parker's handlers have been taunting Browne, who made Australian sporting history by winning a world heavyweight title, beating Ruslan Chagaev in Russia for the WBA's "regular" title (as opposed to the more prestigious unified belt).

The 36-year-old Browne, from West Sydney, will first defend his title against American Fres Oquendo. Parker is due to fight the Cameroon-born Frenchman Carlos Takam in May.

Parker spokesman Craig Stanaway has claimed Parker would "humiliate" Browne.

"We will unleash Joseph Parker onto Lucas Browne any time he's ready...however, Lucas has proved he has no intention of accepting the challenge against Joe any time soon," Stanaway said.

Browne's manager Matt Clark said he "laughed reading those comments".

"They asked us to give them a figure. We did and they couldn't match it. Put it this way it'll be less than what Lucas will be getting paid for his next fight", Stuff reported Clark as saying.
