Digicel Samoa Launches Christmas Campaign in celebration of 10 years

Digicel Samoa is celebrating its ten years of operation in Samoa this Christmas.

Head of Corporate affairs Talai Jr Lene today launched the special promotion for Digicel to mark its long years of serving Samoa successfully.

“Since 2006 we have tried to serve Samoa with the best that was available. Back then we only had calling and texting and slow internet,” he said.

“Today we are pleased to say that celebrating our 10th year in Samoa and serving the people of this country, we have reached milestones as we have strived hard to achieve this,” he said.

Talai was referring to the launch of LTE network in Samoa providing faster internet access, and more reliable connections, and the many partnerships made with various popular mobile companies in the world, including Huawei who are a big part of this year’s campaign #GetGifted.

“Every year we do something special for our country, to give back to the community, this year we have partnered up with telecommunications giant Huawei in providing a new campaign,” said Talai.

The #GetGifted campaign includes the dramatic price drop on three of the most popular Huawei brands in Samoa, and the chance for Digicel phone owners to win a $1000 tala from $30,000 tala’s worth of cash for the next six weeks, by texting Huawei to 1155.

Digicel’s success has been marked by the coverage amongst Samoa as whole in terms of users and customers.

“The estimate for mobile phone users in Samoa is at about 100 to 110 thousand, now we cover about or more than 85,000 of those customers, meaning we have a little more than 80% of the coverage. However, it’s not about how many we serve, it’s about our ability to serve that number, “he said.

Talai says Digicel’s ability to uphold and serve a huge number of customers is an amazing achievement.

The estimated number of Samoan mobile phone owners in 2006 when Digicel arrived to Samoa was at only 30,000. Since then the number has more than doubled.
