Employees face separate theft charges

Two different cases of theft as a servant have been reported to Samoa’s Police.

“The first case is the alleged theft of multiple items from a popular hotel in the town area. The management of Sheraton Aggie Greys in Vaisigano reported to police of one of their employees stealing food items and four small fridges from the hotel by one of their staff members,” said Police spokesperson Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu.

Su’a says the total cost of items stolen have not been determined, the mini-fridges however cost AUD$189 each.

Police have remanded the suspect in custody until an appearance in court.

The second case involves the theft of multiple wholesale fabric rolls from Chan Mow wholesaler.

“The management reported to police that they saw the suspect loading the fabric onto a small taxi. The police followed up and searched the car and confirmed that the suspect is in fact one of the wholesaler’s employees,” said Su’a.

“The two alleged suspects are both to be charged with theft as a servant. An additional charge has been done to a separate individual who accepted the stolen fabric rolls and he too will stand trial with the accused for charges of accepting stolen goods,” said Su’a.

The maximum penalty for theft as a servant is ten years imprisonment.
