"I'm ready for a championship bout," Joseph Parker

Samoan superstar heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker is confident he is ready to take on a championship fight for the world title.

"I’ve been ready, give me 11 weeks of training camp and I am all set to take on the best in the world," he said during an interview with Loop Samoa earlier today.

However, Parker and his coach Kevin Barry are still plagued by other complications, which have been making the road to a title fight quite hard

"Most see the boxing side of things, but there’s more to it than just the fights, there’s a political side to it," he said.

"It has to deal with money, and timing."

The speedy heavyweight boxer's coach Barry though is more focused on preparing Parker for the Rumble in Paradise bout against American southpaw, Jason Bergman.

"We’ve been busy the last four weeks, and focusing on the many changes we’ve had to put on to Joe's stance," Barry stated.

"It's not easy to have trained for years perfecting your style and then you come against someone like Bergman and you'd have to train a whole different way, and working on different combinations," he continued.

Parker though has been having back spasms since the Christmas break while training in Las Vegas.

"I’ve been feeling it the last few weeks, but since I got to Samoa, it’s gone, maybe it’s the Samoan 'fofo' that’s worked out for me," said Parker.

For Jason Bergman, what was meant to be his team against the world coming to Samoa, has become an incredible opportunity for himself and his team.

"The people have been nothing but so friendly, I’m keeping it real, and they should expect a great fight from me and Joe, no heavyweight bout should ever reach 12 rounds," he said.

Bergman may not know, but the historic fight in Samoa is part of a much bigger push, in promoting Samoa as the ideal tourist destination and Parker himself says it’s been a long time dream to fight at home and donate to such a cause.

When asked how much further he and his team have to go until eligible for a proper title challenge, Parker stated with assurance, about three more wins and he’s headed for the champ.
