“In celebrating National Environment week, we should all take part in the action taken. For years the government has been singing the same song of warning and advisory, to take care of the environment,” he said.

“Your actions today will ensure a better future for your children and grandchildren. It will ensure a future at least,” he said.

During the Environment week, Ministry of Environment focused on building a healthy environment. It covered a range of areas on ‘Healthy Environment, Healthy People and endangered animal and plants species.

The ministry also focused on planting two million trees to combat climate change, since the Ministry is giving this year’s celebration a lot of emphasis.

“We are the cause of our own problems. We cut down trees, we burn our plantations, and trash the oceans and also overfish and this is affecting the same resources we depend on for survival. Think of the future of your children and their children to come,” added Tuilaepa.

“You want them to fish where you are fishing today, instead of complaining, because sea level has also took our land due to our ignorance,” he said.

One particular area the Prime Minister emphasized was burning of waste. He urged the people to realize what harm they are causing to their environment.
