Police probe mysterious death of 15 year old girl

The death of a 15 year old girl in Samoa has baffled police and her family.

Police Spokesperson Su’a Le Mamea Tiumalu says the matter was reported to Police on Saturday when the hospital at Motootua confirmed the death of the teenager.

“The case is surrounded by a lot of unexplained factors. The young girl is said to have been playing with her younger brother in their family back yard minutes before she was found dead by her mother,” said Su’a.

“The mother was doing some gardening work in her yard and he son came over to her, she called for her daughter but received no response,” he added.

Su’a says she eventually went to check on her daughter and found her face down and not breathing. She was transported to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.

“The cause of death has not been confirmed whether it’s of natural causes or a homicide. The post mortem may decide that after the pathologist takes a look at the scratches on her face,” said Su’a.

The deceased of Siusega attended St. Mary’s college in Vaimoso and she excelled in school having reached Year 11 while at 15 years of age.

Su’a says these cases are in some way personal and sensitive to the ministry and expressed the police’s condolences to the grieving family.
