Saipan airport reopens but only for daylight flights

The Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport reopened on Tuesdabut flight operations will be limited to departures and arrivals during daylight hours.

Commonwealth Ports Authority Executive Director Maryann Q. Lizama said the airport can only accommodate flights from sunrise to sunset

“We are working full time to repair the damage to the navigational aids and facilities. Full operations will be announced on a later date as the Federal Aviation Administration and CPA are working on getting all the navigational aids working as soon as possible.”

According to Lizama, CPA will provide updates as repairs progress.

Lizama said people who are traveling and have booked tickets are advised to contact the individual airlines directly to check their flight schedules, adjusted departure times and revised arrival times. These could change due to the limited operation times at the Saipan airport, she added.

“We appreciate the patience of the traveling public as we work on restoring full services as soon as possible,” Lizama said.
