Samoan PM downplays suspension of Director of NPO and Police Commissioner

Samoa’s Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has called the temporary suspension of National Prosecution Office’s Director Mauga Precious Chang and the Commissioner of Police Egon Keil just another important phase in their duties.

“They’re basically going through their teething phase. You know when a newborn child first gets their fever and they take it to the hospital and they say its teething problems. That’s exactly what these two are going into,” said Prime Minister Tuilaepa.

“So there’s nothing big about it,” said Tuilaepa.

“If you look at the two, they are very young and new to their posts, but they both are very intelligent people. However, whatever they do they are like my children, who just had a few misunderstandings and remember, they both deal with prosecuting people. So now they have tested it amongst each other,” he added.

“So when they finally get to deal with the big issues, they’ve gotten used to it,” added the Prime Minister.

Both the Director of NPO and Police Commissioner have been suspended after they were charged for separate cases.

“You know the process when these things come up, they get a little break and once they’ve done with their little race, then they come back and finish their jobs all recharged and ready to get back to work,” said Tuilaepa.
