2018 MPIP PNG launched

The 2018 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) PNG has been launched.

In a small event last night at the Royal Papua Yacht Club in Port Moresby, chairperson Molly O’Rourke officially opened another year of the pageant.

This was in the presence of the former and current contestants, sponsors and supporters as well as MPIP PNG scholarship winners, designers and the reigning queen Niawali Twain.

Called the pageant with a purpose, it has four main foundations: The Scholarship fund, the Pacific Balanced Fund Project Runway, MPIP PNG pageant and the regional MPIP Regional Pageant.

Each foundation has its own success stories to tell.

The group that gathered last night heard some of these success stories in the last years and plans for the future.

O’Rourke also announced the major dates for the year:

  • Pacific Balanced Fund Project Runway – July 28
  • MPIP PNG Crowning Ball – October 28

The chairperson further revealed that the reigning Miss Pacific Islands, Matau-aina Toomalatai, from American Samoa, will be the special guest at the project runway.

She added that the regional pageant this year will be in Tonga.

O’Rourke thanked all the supporters throughout the years.

A special announcement last night also acknowledged the first contestant of MPIP PNG 2018 - Vinlynne Polopa, an EMS Officer, fixed plant maintenance with PJV, Barrick Niugini & ZiJin Mining Ltd PNG.
