Oscars 2019: Lady Gaga wins first Oscar for Shallow

Lady Gaga has won her first Academy Award, taking out the Oscar for Best Original Song.

The award is shared with her Shallow co-writers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt.

An emotional Gaga gave high praise to co-star Bradley Cooper in her speech, saying "There is not a single person on the planet that could have sung this song with me but you."

She continued, "If you're at home and you're sitting at home on your couch watching, all I have to say is this is hard work... It's not about winning, but what it's about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it.

"It's not about how many times you get rejected... It's about how many times you're brave and you stand up and you keep on going.""

Mark Ronson then took to the mic to thank Gaga, telling the audience, "When you're in the room with this person you don't have to do too much... Lady Gaga, we salute you."

The award comes after Gaga and Cooper performed the song live during the ceremony.

Lady Gaga is also up for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

The team behind Shallow have had a successful award season, picking up Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards and BAFTAs as well.
