Global Day of Parents passed quietly

There’s Mother’s Day and then there’s Father’s Day… But United Nation has observed June 1 as the Global Day of Parents.

This was publically declared in 2012, September 17, and from then on, June 1 has annually been recognised as the Global Day of Parents.

It’s not a day restricted to one’s biological parents but an opportunity to appreciate parents and parental figures for the vital role they play in the development of families.

Global Day of Parents highlights and promotes effective parenting.

According to the UN, this observance recognises parents as vital in providing protection and positive development for their children.

It also notes that parents of every race, religion, culture and nationality, in all parts of the world, were the primary caregivers and teachers of their children.

As Global Day of Parents passed by quietly yesterday, Loop PNG spoke to a father-of-two, Andrew Yarong.

“Parenting in this day and age is different from how it was with my parents. The lifestyle is different so our parenting technique has to keep up also with how things are, changes like technology and social life,” he said.

In general, he added: “Parenting is not easy but you learn as you go.”
