Pasifika arts summit returns after eight years

Pacific artists are gathering in Wellington today for a two-day fono discussing the future of Pacific arts.

Panels of professionals and up-and-coming artists will share their skills, experiences and views on how to best support traditional and contemporary Pacific arts.

The Pacific Arts Summit will also help develop, for the very first time, a Pacific Arts Strategy for Creative New Zealand.

New Zealand Arts Council member Luamanuvao Winnie Laban says the last summit was eight years ago, and they're excited about re-connecting artists to help shape the future of Pacific art.

"Having such a broad range of Pacific artists in one place in an opportunity for the sector to build on its success over the last decade and plan for the future," she says.

The summit will be held at Te Papa Museum and conclude tomorrow evening.
