Businessman assaulted and robbed of SAT$23,000

Three men are in Samoa police custody for theft and assault of a Chinese businessman around 6pm on Saturday, 14 September 2019 at Lotopa.

Police investigation indicates that these individuals stole a backpack from the victim's vehicle.

At the time of the assault the men were under the influence of alcohol.

One of the men distracted the victim while the other forcefully took the bag containing SAT$23,000.00.

The victim was punched in the face when he tried to chase after the culprits.

Police responded and carried out the investigation last Saturday night.

One of the three suspects was arrested early Sunday morning and was charged accordingly and two others were arrested and charged Monday.

All three suspects have been remanded in custody until 1 October 2019 for Mention.

SPS has recovered SAT$21,545 together with items such as boxes of chicken and beers from the suspects.

The items have since been returned to the victim.
