Fijian women who claimed mistreatment in Samoa safe back home

Two Fijian women who claimed mistreatment by their employer and who were embroiled in a stop-departure dispute in Samoa have arrived safely back home.

The duo, Tuipulotu Talatoka and Salaseini Serukeitoga, left Fiji in April and September last year to work as housemaid and nanny for a Samoan lawyer and businessman.

Last Friday, stop departure notices were issued against them after their employer lodged a formal police complaint, alleging the women had walked off with some valuable items from his house.

He also said they had taken the items while fleeing in the early hours during the Easter weekend this year.

The matter was reported in the Samoan Observer.

In a correspondence made to the Samoan Observer, which were sighted by the Fiji Times, the women claimed they left their employer after working for about one year without work contracts and work permits.

They also claimed they were treated harshly, which was why they decided to walk off their jobs.
