Moana red carpet screening in Samoa opens new partnership for Pacific

Disney, Voyagers international and Conservation International are partnering to help bring awareness and conservation in Pacific communities.

It’s Disney’s first active partnership with the Pacific which focuses on helping with conservation efforts in the region.

The producer of the Hollywood animation movie Moana, Osnat Shurer announced the partnership at a red carpet screening of the movie in Apia last night.

“It’s the first of its kind in Samoa and the Pacific as a whole with Disney, so its exciting times,” she said.

“They will be voyaging across the Pacific, sharing and raising awareness of conservation efforts with technical support from Conservation International and the Samoan government,” she said.

“Voyagers international captain Fealofani Bruun along with her crew will visit all the communities in their traditional double haul voyaging canoe the Gaualofa and present free workshops on simple coastal and marine management, and hosting a free screening of Disney’s Moana,” Shurer added.

She told guests that the Pacific faced a real threat and filming the movie led to the move by Disney to join the fight to protect the coastal and marine environment through the partnership.
