Mother charged over death of child in Samoa

A 37-year-old woman, who allegedly threw a rock at her daughter and caused her death has been charged.

Samoa’s Deputy Police Commissioner, Papalii Monalisa Tiai Keti told the media today that the mother has been charged and is due to appear in court on 12 December.

Police allege the woman threw a rock at her 13-year old daughter while she was disciplining her.

The woman of Safottu and Toamua has been has been charged with manslaughter and armed with a dangerous weapon, with alternative charges of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.

The girl was rushed to the hospital where she allegedly died of her injuries.

The alleged incident took place last month. 

An autopsy report has been ordered to confirm the cause of her death.
