New intake of Samoa seasonal workers warned against bad behaviour

A new group of seasonal workers ready to begin work with Silver Fern Farms in New Zealand have been urged to be on their best behaviour and be good ambassadors of their country.

Samoa’s New Zealand-based Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Liaison Officer, Lemalu Nele Leilua said there is no room for nonsense and bad behaviour.

“This is in which you are not going to New Zealand to look for permanent residency by forgetting your matrimonial vows. And don’t think that you will get away with it under my watch,” Lemalu warned the workers.

“Infidelity has led to many past workers fall from the RSE program and has left nothing but misery and embarrassment for their families and our government,” she added.

“I will be more than just your Liaison Officer because I will make sure that there will be no misbehaving and no hanky-panky because you are more than bread winners for your families but flag carriers for our country and our government.”

The Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour, Chief Executive Pulotu Lyndon Chu Ling spoke to the workers about alcohol-related problems.

“You carry the hopes of your wives, children, parents, family, your people and your government,” urged Pulotu.

“Do not waste this once in a lifetime opportunity by falling into temptation and stay away from alcohol because it has been proven time and again as the cause of misery and termination of your contracts,” he added.

Silver Fern Farms is New Zealand’s leading marketer, processor and exporter of premium quality lamb, beef, venison and associated products.
