Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi remains at the hospital in New Zealand and is likely to stay there until the end of the week.
That’s the latest update from his Office, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Press Secretary.
Issued in Samoan, the statement said Prime Minister Tuilaepa is still being monitored in New Zealand following his medical evacuation from the Moto’otua Hospital last Friday.
The evacuation was a precautionary measure recommended by medical doctors in Samoa. The government has kept his medical condition under wraps.
Last night’s statement quoted the Prime Minister as saying the medical tests and checks are progressing well.
He said the doctors expect to find a clearer and broader picture about his condition at the end of the week.
“I want to say thank you to the country for your prayers and well wishes,” Tuilaepa said.
The last time Prime Minister Tuilaepa was evacuated for medical reasons was two years ago.
He was in Parliament when he was evacuated and admitted to the Moto’otua hospital.
Tuilaepa was later flown to New Zealand where he was treated and spent considerable time recovering.
The Prime Minister has repeatedly downplayed concerns about his health, saying he feels as a strong as a young man.
