Vaiusu Primary school opens new classrooms

Two additional classrooms have been opened to accommodate children at Vaiusu Primary School in Samoa .

The classrooms will benefit  Year 7 and Year 8 students who will have their own proper classrooms.

Previously the two classes were housed in the hall.

School principal Levaopolo Natanielu Paoa says the new classrooms are part of the $66,000 project that was funded by the Parents Teachers Association.

“We loaned $50,000 from the National Bank and fundraised ($16,000) to help pay for the carpenter.”

Paoa noted that the roll of the school continues to increase and some of the classrooms are overcrowded. This was seen in Year 5 which had more than 60 students in one classroom.

Part of the project included a new office for the school principal.

Minister of Education Loau Keneti Sio delivered the keynote address while the Chief Executive Officer CEO Afamasaga Dr Karoline Afamasaga -Fuatai was given the task of cutting the ribbon.

Vaiusu Primary has a roll of 403 students who are from the villages of Vaiusu, Siusega and Vailoa and is staffed by eleven teachers, which include a Peace Corps volunteer.
