Samoa beat Guam in U17 National Basketball

Samoa women’s team outscored Guam in the final minute of the U17 National Basketball competition Wednesday.

The team out-rebounded Guam 75-34, and made 40 percent of its shots compared to Guam’s 24 percent.

Guam's ladies made it a game for a while. After falling behind by 10 points after the first quarter, Guam kept pace with Samoa over the next two quarters and stayed within striking range, down 61-43 entering the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Guam had most of the highlights with Alana Salas had 17 points to lead all scorers, while Cori-Nicole Paulino scored 12 points, had five rebounds and four steals for Guam.

Samoa Men’s team was on fire, hitting half of its 79 shots while outrebounding Guam 65-37.

The quarterfinals of the competition will be played tonight.

The top two teams from this tournament will advance to next year's U18 FIBA Asian Championships.
