Tide turns for boxing champ Lupesoliai La'auli Joseph Parker

Boxing pundits predicted an early finish for the heavyweight clash between Lupesoliai La’auli Joseph Parker and Mexican pugilist Alexander Flores at the weekend.

The 26-year-old Samoan-Kiwi knocked out Flores in the third round igniting fresh hopes of a swift comeback to world heavyweight contention.

Former super heavyweight champion and trainer Sua Henry Schuster says Parker was ruthless at Christchurch's Horncastle Arena.

"It's good to see he brought plenty of attitude to the ring. His mindset was pretty good. The opposition is there to hurt you and it was good to see a change in his mindset."

"Trainers can only help but the last part of the story happens in the ring and it was good to see Parker finish on a high."

Critics were quick to point several contentious low blows by Parker but Sua says boxing is a contact sport and the referee is the one that upholds the law in the ring.

"Good thing is he's got time on his side. He's only a young boy really in the heavyweight division."

Sua says it's just a matter of time before Parker gets back and Saturday night was an awesome start.

Parker's win is his first for 2018 following successive losses against British boxers Anthony Joshua in Cardiff and Dillian Whyte in London.
