At least 21 dead as Venice tourist bus plunges from bridge

The bus broke through a barrier and plunged off the road near railway tracks in the district of Mestre, which is connected to Venice by a bridge.

It had been rented to take tourists between Venice and a campsite in the nearby Marghera district, reports say.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said a "huge tragedy" had taken place.

"An apocalyptic scene, there are no words," he said on X, formerly Twitter.

The incident happened at about 19.45 local time as the bus was reportedly taking tourists back to the campsite.

66-year-old man dead following bus crash in Samoa

The driver of the bus was charged with negligent driving causing the death of a man and injuries to other passengers.

Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed the death to Radio Polynesia.

The man who died was one of several passengers who were in critical condition.

Other passengers were discharged from the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital on Monday.

     

Bus plunges into reservoir in China, killing 21

The vehicle was travelling on a bridge on Tuesday in Anshun, Guizhou province when it crashed through a roadside barrier and fell into the water.

Those on board reportedly included students who were scheduled to take the "gaokao" university entrance exams, state media said.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

The driver, who is among the dead, had wokred on this bus route since 1997, Xinhua said.

It's unclear how many people were on the bus at the time and how many of those were students.

Talamua Online named the defendant as Liutagata Uesile of Foaluga Village.

Police said speed was the suspected cause of the accident.

They said the bus was allegedly carrying 64 passengers, double the legal limit and was coming downhill at Auala village, when it crashed at a bend while overtaking another vehicle.

The District Hospital in Sataua did not have enough beds for all the injured and photos posted on social media following the accident showed more than one patient to a bed.
