Samoa reports over 1000 Influenza Like Illnesses

The Syndromic Surveillance & Covid-19 Update report features data collected from 6-12 March 2023.

According to the report, a total of 1207 ILI cases were reported during the period under review.

An ILI case refers to an acute respiratory infection with a history of fever or measured fever of ≥ 38 C° and cough, with onset within the last 10 days.

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said an August 15 service at the Assembly of God Church of Samoa remains the event with the highest number of Covid cases this outbreak.

Number of alcohol-related crimes in Samoa reduced

Supreme Court judge Justice Mata Keli Tuatagaloa said alcohol-related cases had dropped from 61 percent of all cases in 2015 to 55 percent last year.

She said the concept of needing a "village to raise a child" was effective in helping offenders and the court process involved engaging the community.
