Australia thanks Samoa for donation to bushfire response

Ms Moriarty said that Australia was very grateful for the outpouring of support from Samoa for Australia and the Australian people.

“Just as Australia supported Samoa’s response to the measles epidemic, it is comforting to know that Samoa is standing with Australia in our time of need,” she said. “I really appreciate all the kind words from people in the community who have expressed their condolences to me, as well as the efforts to raise funds.”

“This donation from the Government will help support bushfire response and recovery for those who have been badly impacted.

The Australian actress, 52, made a brief appearance at a pre-Golden Globes event in Los Angeles on Saturday (US time), looking visibly upset.

Kidman's representative told Us Magazine that the couple are "keeping a close eye" on their rural property, which is "under threat" from the NSW wildfires. 

The Oscar winner refused red carpet interviews, saying she was "so distracted".

"I'm so sorry. I'm so distracted right now with everything that's happening in Australia," she apologised, according to attendees. 

Donations to Samoa church increase amid tax dispute

Samoa's largest church is currently in a bitter dispute with the government over its ministers' refusal to pay income tax, which has led to several pastors being brought before the courts.

However, church treasurer Rimoni Wright recently told its general conference that its finances continued to grow.

Reverend Wright said much of the extra revenue is earmarked for missionary work.


Handover of Pacific Games vehicles, fireworks and equipment to Samoa Government

Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi received the donation at a ceremony Friday.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Samoa, I wish to thank the Government and people of China for the tremendous support and assistance that demystify the nuances of Samoa hosting a miracle game. May we continue to collaborate in the spirit of mutual trust, respect for each other’s sovereignty and a better appreciation of our differences,” Tuilaepa said.
