Well, what is it? Didn’t we celebrate Friendship Day, which is also recognized by the UN, on the first Sunday of August or July 30?

Well, it appears that Facebook wants that the users celebrate company’s birthday as Friends Day. To lure them into doing so, Facebook is here with a dancing humanoid robot that’s made out of emojis and images of your “best” friends.

Facebook, Google to help fight fake news ahead of French elections

Google and Facebook are partnering with journalists to help prevent fake news stories from spreading during France's presidential election.

Google News Lab and the non-profit First Draft News have launched a verification project called "CrossCheck" that will help French newsrooms identify and quickly debunk hoaxes, rumors and other false claims.

At least 17 major news organizations are taking part in the project, including Le Monde, Agence France-Presse (AFP), Liberation, BuzzFeed and France Medias Monde, which manages Radio France Internationale and TV station France 24.

The brief was signed by nearly 100 companies including Facebook, Twitter, Intel, eBay, Netflix and Uber, as well as non-tech companies such as Levi Strauss and Chobani.

The document is an amicus brief, which allows parties not directly involved in a case but who feel they are affected by it, to give their view.

Facebook to roll out fake news tools in Germany

The world's largest social network said it would enable German users to flag potentially false stories.

The stories will then be passed to third-party fact-checkers and if found to be unreliable, will be marked in users' news feeds as "disputed".

It is the first major rollout of the fake news features announced by Facebook in December.

Facebook 'to launch ads within videos'

The ads would probably first appear in Facebook videos by professional publishers, said one analyst.

To date, the social network has resisted allowing "pre-roll" ads that play before a video starts.

Publishers would receive 55% of revenue from mid-roll ad sales, according to tech site Recode.

Facebook declined to comment.

"Advertisers are super keen on video advertising," said Eleni Marouli, at analyst company IHS Markit.
