Facebook pursues Brand budgets

On Monday, Facebook announced it will help marketers sell and place”in article” and “in stream” video ads on its “Audience Network,” which includes thousands of third-party applications and websites. The move marks the first time Facebook is selling video ads on its Audience Network on the desktop web and the first time the social media giant is offering a video ad product on its Audience Network directed at brand advertisers. Marketers have the option to expand video ad campaigns from Facebook and Instagram to the Audience Network.

Facebook reports strong results as millions move to mobile

The social media giant has this morning reported earnings of US$1.51 billion, or 52 cents per share, up from $512 million, or 18 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier. Adjusted earnings were 77 cents per share in the latest quarter, well above the 62 cents that analysts polled by FactSet were expecting.

Revenue was $5.38 billion, up from $3.54 billion. Analysts had forecast $5.26 billion.

Instagram proves a winner for Facebook

After buying Instagram for US$1 billion in 2012, analysts at Credit Suisse now expect Facebook will get more than triple that price tag in revenue from the photo sharing app this year alone.

"We are now forecasting $3.2b in revenue contribution from Instagram in 2016," analysts led by Stephen Ju said in a recent note.

Sharing on Facebook drops 21%

At least, that's according to a couple of reports this week outlining a sharp decline in "original", personal posts from its users, and what Facebook is trying to do to reverse the trend.
