New routers defend smart homes against hacks

Symantec, BitDefender and Intel unveiled devices that scrutinise data as it flows across home networks.

The companies say routers with built-in defences will be essential as homes are filled with net-connected gadgets.

The routers also come with parental control features that help manage how much time children spend online and what they see.

"You will have to buy a security solution for your internet-of-things," said Alex Balan, chief security researcher at BitDefender.

Yahoo flaw allowed hackers to read anyone's emails

Jouko Pynnönen, a Finnish Security researcher from security firm Klikki Oy, reported a DOM based persistent XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) in Yahoo mail, which if exploited, allows an attacker to send emails embedded with malicious code.
In his blog post published today, the researcher demonstrated how a malicious attacker could have sent the victim's inbox to an external site, and created a virus that attached itself to all outgoing emails by secretly adding a malicious script to message signatures.

DailyMotion Hacked — 85 Million user accounts stolen

This time a popular video sharing platform DailyMotion has allegedly been hacked and tens of millions of users information have been stolen.

Breach notification service LeakedSource announced the data breach on Monday after the company obtained 85.2 Million records from Dailymotion.

According to LeakedSource, the DailyMotion data breach appears to have taken place on October 20, 2016, which means it is possible that hackers have been circulating the data for over a month.

Hackers steal Millions from European ATMs using Malware that spit out cash

Earlier this year, a gang of cyber criminals infected several ATMs with malware in Taiwan and Thailand that caused the machines to spit out millions in cash, and the gang members then stood in front of the infected ATMs at the appointed hour and collected the money.

Now, the FBI has warned U.S. banks of the potential for similar ATM jackpotting attacks, saying that the agency is "monitoring emerging reports indicating that well-resourced and organized malicious cyber actors have intentions to target the U.S. financial sector."

Liberia denies internet disruption claim

Reports last week said that cyber-attacks had repeatedly overwhelmed this link making net access intermittent.

The authority said there was "no data to substantiate" the claim.

But it said one telecommunications company serving half the nation's mobile users did suffer attacks that repeatedly limited access.

'Bustling' web attack market closed down

The marketplace, on the Hack Forums website, was notorious for making it easy it launch attacks that knocked servers offline.

The section was "permanently shut down" because several attacks known to be co-ordinated via the forum caused web-wide disruption.

One regular victim of attacks arranged via Hack Forums welcomed the closure.

"Unfortunately once again the few ruin it for the many," wrote Jesse LaBrocca, founder of Hack Forums, in a message explaining why the section was being closed.

How hackers are targeting your connected gadgets

If so, you could be unwittingly turning your internet-connected "smart" home into a weapon of web destruction.

That's the unsettling conclusion to be drawn from the recent web attacks that made use of a botnet army of compromised connected devices, from webcams to printers, to knock out a number of popular websites.

The smart home, it seems, is pretty dumb when it comes to security.

Hack attacks cut internet access in Liberia

Recurrent attacks up to 3 November flooded the cable link with data, making net access intermittent.

Researchers said the attacks showed hackers trying different ways to use massive networks of hijacked machines to overwhelm high-value targets.

Experts said Liberia was attacked by the same group that caused web-wide disruption on 21 October.

Those attacks were among the biggest ever seen and made it hard to reach big web firms such as Twitter, Spotify and Reddit.

Hundreds of Operations Canceled after Malware hacks Hospitals Systems

They are not just hacking your email and online banking accounts anymore.

Computer viruses do not distinguish between a personal computer or a hospital machine delivering therapy to patients — and the results could prove deadly.

Cyber attacks on hospitals have emerged as a significant cyber security risk in 2016, which not only threaten highly sensitive information but also potentially harm the very lives of those being protected.
