The Islamic State group (IS) has claimed it carried out the attacks, which would be a first in Iran.

Five suspects have been arrested in Tehran, the city's police chief said.

Gunmen armed with Kalashnikovs entered the parliament on Wednesday morning. Heavy gunfire could be heard, and there were reports that a security guard has been killed.

Iran will not be bullied as thousands march in Tehran

Rouhani marked celebrations of the 38th anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution Friday by addressing thousands gathered in Tehran, many of whom have been angered by the travel ban imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Rouhani did not mention Trump by name but instead stated "some amateurs are holding reins of power" in a nearly hour-long speech.

US planning additional sanctions on Iran

The additional sanctions are in response to Iran's ballistic missile test Sunday. They are similar to actions taken by former President Barack Obama after Iran's previous ballistic missile tests.

In a letter to Trump Thursday, a bipartisan group of senators said "Iranian leaders must feel sufficient pressure to cease deeply destabilizing activities, from sponsoring terrorist groups to continued testing of ballistic missiles."
