IFC to invest in National Bank of Samoa

The investment comes in the form of an eight-year unfunded risk-sharing facility.

This is expected to help foster financial inclusion while also supporting the creation of thousands of jobs.

IFC and NBS each will cover up to 50 percent of the principal losses, in an up to $8 million US-dollar portfolio of SME loans to be originated by NBS.

     

Olympian Eroni Leilua receives major boost from National Bank of Samoa

The donation is a financial boost for the country’s first Olympic qualified sailor, Eroni Leilua. 

NBS Chief Executive, Sam Swann said they are grateful to be able to support and made sure Leilua had the backing he needed.

The support meant also meant a lot for Swann, given that sailing is a sacred sport in the Samoa.

“Sailings is one of our oldest means of transport across the Pacific. It is one of the first ways to trade and to export between islands and it is a sport that we feel should get more recognition in our island today.” he said.

National Bank of Samoa gives SASNOC funding to aid athletes' Games preparations

NBS chief executive Sam Swann handed over a cheque for SAT40,000 (US$15,800) to SASNOC President Patrick Fepulea'i after the organisations agreed to work together.

The SASNOC says the funds will support preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games.

The money could also be used in advance of youth events. 

Samoa sent eight athletes to the Rio 2016 Olympics, while the nation's sole medal at the Games came at Beijing 2008 via weightlifter Ele Opeloge.

NBS and Digicel partner to offer remittance linked savings product

Digicel will work with NBS to integrate its Mobile Money platform with NBS’ banking systems. This will allow beneficiaries to transfer their money received from family and friends from their Digicel Mobile Money wallet into their NBS bank account.
