Samoa 7s player awaits sentence on assault offences

Asofolau appeared in court earlier today.

The police filed charges last month against Asofolau after a complaint was filed as a result of a dispute.

Asofolau appeared in eight of the 10 World Series Sevens tournaments this season, scoring 11 tries.

Samoa sevens player Gordon Langkilde pleads guilty to misdemeanours

The charges were reduced from two criminal counts of battery and one of assault after he attacked Welsh players in the tunnel, following Samoa's 24-19 loss at the July World Cup.

Langkilde spent a week in custody and two months in the United States awaiting trial following his arrest.

The Pacific Rugby Players chief executive, Aayden Clark, said the 22-year-old would be back in Samoa in the coming days.

Samoa Union continuing to support Langkilde

22-year-old Langkilde was charged in July with battery, assault and misdemeanour following an off-field altercation with Welsh players at the Sevens World Cup in San Francisco.

Last week his hearing was delayed for a second time and it is now approaching two months since he initially arrived in the US.

Samoa's team manager Peter Poulos has stayed with Langkilde over the past few weeks and the SRU 's Zane Hilton said they were trying to keep the lines of communication between the player and his family, over 7,000 kilometres away, open.
