Samoa to secure a win against USA in Paris

The American side appears to be the tough side that Samoa will encounter since they are currently ranked second in the world sevens series.

However, before that, Samoa will first meet Canada in the tournament’s opener tomorrow.

Samoa will then meet Spain in their last pool match on Sunday.

Meanwhile in other pools, Fiji is drawn with Argentina and England.

Pool B will feature Australia, South Africa and Kenaya while Pool D has France New Zealand and Japan     

Motuga to boost Samoa’s campaign at the London 7s

Motuga is ranked third in the DHL Performance Tracker with 271 points behind Fiji’s Vilimoni Botitu in second with 272 points.

Connor Braid of the Wales team is currently in first place with 298 points.

Motuga has scored 51 tries and played 150 matches so far.

Winger Johnny Vaili is also the man to watch from Samoa after his successful appearance for the team.

He currently is the top try scorer in the team with 26 tries so far.

Samoa will take on France in their first pool game on Saturday before taking on Kenya on Sunday.

Samoa to take on South Africa in Cup QF

 This is after they lost to New Zealand 26-22 in their last pool game.

However, the Gordon Tietjens coached side were impressive in their other pool games after thrashing Japan 57-5 and Spain 40-14.

Meanwhile in other cup quarterfinals, USA will face Argentina, Australia will take on England and Fiji to take on New Zealand.

   

Samoa thrashes Spain to win first pool game

The Gordon Tietjens coached side also led at halftime 21-7.

Samoa’s tries were scored by Melani Matavao, Alamanda Motuga , Tomasi Alosio, David Afamasaga, John Vaili.

Manuel Sainz-Trapaga and Jordi Jorba scored tries for Spain.

Samoa will meet Japan in their next pool game.

     

Samoa has potential to win Singapore 7s

The team missed out on its chance of featuring in the main final after losing to France 19-12.

The Gordon Tietjens coached side won two of its pool games and lost to South Africa 21-7 in its final pool game.

After the semifinal loss, the team then went on to settle in fourth place in the tournament after losing to USA 22-10.

After the competition in So Kon Po, Samoa’s Alamanda Motuga is ranked second in the DHL’s performance tracker with 231 points.

Samoa will take on Spain in their first match of the Singapore 7s before taking on Japan on Saturday.

Samoa aims to finish top four of the series

Coach Gordon Tietjen says it’s every team’s dream to play and win at the World Seven’s capital, the Hong Kong 7s.

Currently placed seventh in the World Series standings, Tietjen says they want to improve its performance to get automatic qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Leilua makes a comeback for Samoa 7s

The 21 year-old last donned the Blue jersey in July, last year.

Also out to make his comeback is Tomasi Alosio, who returns from an injury sustained in the Sydney Sevens, while Siaosi Asofolau is also fit again after missing the last tournament in Vancouver.

Samoa will be meeting Scotland in the opening match of the tournament on Friday before meeting Japan on Saturday.

Their last pool game is against South Africa.

One new cap for Samoa 7s in Hong Kong

The Moata'a fullback was recently named MVP of the Taula Apia Rugby Union competition.

Tomasi Alosio returns from an injury sustained in the Sydney Sevens, while Siaosi Asofolau is also fit again after missing the last tournament in Vancouver.

Meanwhile, Laaloi Leilua is set to make his first appearance on the World Series this season after last featuring at the Sevens World Cup in July.

Joe Perez and Gasologa Pelenato were ruled out through injury, with Danny Tusitala and Maauga Iamanu overlooked for the next two tournaments.

Two debutants in Samoa 7s squad for Vegas, Vancouver

The duo impressed Manu 7s coach Sir Gordon Tietjens at the Marist International Sevens tournament over the weekend.

23 year old Matavao already has international experience, having played nine tests for Manu Samoa since his debut in 2017.

Tila Mealoi is back after missing the Hamilton and Sydney legs because of injury, while Tofatu Solia is also fit again and set to play his first World Series tournament of the season.

Samoa 7s told to stay away from Christmas treats

The Manu 7s are 10th after the Dubai and Cape Town legs of the World Series, having twice been denied a place in the Cup quarter finals on points differential.

The global circuit resumes in Hamilton in little over five weeks and Sir Gordon, who is renowned for his demanding fitness sessions and strict watch on players' diets, said the players can't afford to slack off.

"Challenging times ahead of course with the New Year festivities and obviously Christmas," he said.
