Samoan PM apologises to family of deceased who remain in morgues

Speaking on his weekly television programme, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi said the government had finally secured a pathologist to come to Samoa and perform the autopsies to determine the cause of death.

After apologising to the families of the deceased he said it was a legal requirement that government could not change.

Tuila'epa said the pathologist will arrive as soon as they have been cleared to travel.

Samoan PM dismisses Opposition concerns over inquiry

The Samoa Observer newspaper reported Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi saying the Opposition argument reflected ignorance.

During the last session of Parliament this week, Tuila'epa ordered the inquiry into four Opposition MPs, including his former deputy, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa for alleged treasonous activities and breaches of Standing Orders.

Tuila'epa said the MPs had been campaigning when they should have been in parliament.

But Fiame said she was not concerned by something that was "quite ridiculous".

Samoa PM announces violence inquiry commissioners

RNZ reports Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi has appointed three commissioners including politician Tolofuaivalelei Falemoe Lei'ataua, Auckland University of Technology's Tagaloatele Peggy Fairbairn-Dunlop and the National University of Samoa's Leasiolagi Malama Meleisea.

Lei'ataua is a former speaker of the house and cabinet minister who represents the A'ana Alofi No. 2 constituency.
