Samoa TV stations to get lower rate for digital platform

One chief executive has revealed they have been offered a reduced tariff to use the new digital broadcasting platform, the Samoa Observer reports.

Galumalemana Faiesea Matafeo of the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation said the monthly tariff had been cut from $US8537 to $US6547.

She indicated that rate would apply for six months from next month, after which it would be be reviewed.

Stand-off between Samoa TV stations and regulator continues

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which operates BYU TV, decided to not utilise the recently launched controversial digital platform despite a last minute intervention by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, the Samoa Observer reports.

The church's trust said after an exhaustive study, they had determined that it was not feasible for them.

The regulator had issued a Court Order requiring television stations to move to the digital platform by Friday or face losing their broadcast licence.
