Huge win has Red V well placed

‌Scoring points had been an issue for Paul McGregor's side in recent weeks with the Red V managing to post 20 or more points just once since their Round 12 bye. However, they turned that around with their highest score since they smashed the Raiders 58-16 in 2007 to keep their finals hopes alive.

The damage was done in the first half with the Dragons racing in five unanswered tries before Manly mounted a stirring second-stanza comeback, only for the Red V to respond with the final four tries of the afternoon.

No end in sight to Hayne's centre shift

Early fears that Hayne was forced from the field last Saturday with a recurrence of the ankle injury that kept him out for five weeks were allayed straight after the game, a nerve issue caused by a blow to the leg responding immediately to treatment.

He ran on Tuesday morning and was named at left centre, the position he has played in wins against the Knights and Storm in the Titans' past two starts.

Manly rookie Kelly tipped for NRL spot

Kelly joined the Sea Eagles after three seasons with the Gold Coast Titans in the NYC where he scored a club-record 35 tries from 54 matches.

He also scored four tries for the Junior Blues in the 2015 State of Origin clash but it's not just his attacking ability that has caught the eye of his teammates.

Daly Cherry-Evans handed the Sea Eagles captaincy

Trbojevic led the Sea Eagles eight times in 2016 and it’s been rumoured that coach Trent Barrett seriously considered sharing the captaincy between the two.

Locked up until the end of 2021, still just 27 and the only remaining member of the 2011 grand final side (unless Steve Matai or Brett Stewart decide to go round again), DCE appears to be a natural fit for the role previously held by the retired Jamie Lyon.

“Daly has been a standout during our pre-season. He is a natural leader and was an obvious choice for us as our next captain,’’ Barrett said.

Wright charged for high tackle

Wright is the only player to attract the attention of the NRL match review committee from Monday night's Titans-Sea Eagles clash at Cbus Super Stadium.

With a previous good record, Wright can escape suspension for his 79th minute shot on Gold Coast fullback Will Zillman with an early guilty plea.

Cronulla too good for Manly in NYC

An anomaly in the draw – caused by a postponed game in Round 3 – meant this was the second time in the space of 14 days that these sides met, with the Sharks able to reverse the 22-16 defeat they suffered at Brookvale Oval a fortnight ago.

The Sea Eagles started both halves with plenty of vigour but couldn't maintain the pressure as they remain last on the ladder through 11 rounds.
