Samoa extends COVID-19 State of Emergency

The Head of State le ao Mamalu ole Malo Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi signed into the law the new amendments following consultations with Cabinet.

The Order commenced on 18 2021 until 6 June 2021.

As of 19 May, 23, 448 people have received their COVID-19 vaccination.

Of this total, 13, 210 are males and 10. 238 are females.

Close to 300 arrested in Samoa for breaking Covid-19 orders

Emergency Orders which came into effect 21 March.

Police Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil has warned there will be more if people don't heed the orders.

The Samoa Observer newspaper reports The breaches range from overloading buses to street vendors carrying out their sales and shops not sticking to ordered opening hours.

The commissioner said at least two supermarket owners had been detained and fined $US74.

He said a total of 294 people had been arrested.

Some of the arrests occurred on Savai'i but the majority have occurred in capital of Apia.

Samoa Police investigate complaints of alleged violation of measles State Emergency order

It is alleged that the two had attempted to undermine the Mass Vaccination Drive through Social Media posts and, by promoting alternative treatments.

Both men were questioned on Saturday and issued with strong warnings.

Police and the Office of the Attorney General will monitor the activities of these and other individuals, and will continue their inquiries.

Law enforcement re-emphasises a caution to members of the public, not to breach the State of Emergency Orders.
