LynnMall stabbings a 'terrorist attack' by a 'known threat to NZ' - PM

The prime minister and the police commissioner addressed the media after the man was fatally shot at a west Auckland mall this afternoon.

It is understood six people - all shoppers at the mall - have been injured in the incident at LynnMall in New Lynn.

St John said three patients in a critical condition and one patient in a serious condition have been taken to Auckland City Hospital; one patient in a moderate condition has been taken to Waitakere hospital; and one patient in a moderate condition has been taken to Middlemore Hospital.

The host, who is doing three consecutive shows from London this week, opened the show on the rainy streets of London with a message of defiance and unity.

"Some people might say it's a strange time to do a variety show from this city," he added. "I couldn't disagree more."

Corden said the staff of the CBS late night show were out in London on Saturday night and were staying in a hotel not far from the location of the attack.

The police barred media from publishing images of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon's funeral, apparently fearing a backlash against the execution that many said was driven by politics.

Executions are rare in India and in the last decade only two others have taken place, both of terror convicts like Memon.

The earlier two executions were conducted in extreme secrecy and announced only after the fact. Their bodies were not handed to their families, but were buried inside prison compounds.
