Amnesty International announces first-ever Pacific voice Tiumalu Peter Fa'afiu as Vice Chair

Samoan-born Kiwi Tiumalu, who's the former chair of the National Pacific Radio Trust, says he's pleased to be a part of the team.

"We were founded in 1965 as an activist movement.

“So the majority of our members are frontline activists, so where ever there's issues, whether it will be on the Mexican border, whether it be in Brazil in the Amazon or whether it be in the Philippines, we'll be on the frontline so it's an activist movement."

Samoan-born Kiwi appointed to Amnesty International Board

Previously a New Zealand diplomat and trade negotiator with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in Wellington and Jakarta, Peter is currently a Partner with management consultancy, Navigator Limited. As Interim Chief Executive Officer at the Tāmaki Regeneration Company (a Crown company), he was one of the youngest New Zealand Crown company chief executives in 2014 at age 36.

Fa’afiu says the thorough interview process took three months to complete and included a few 3am webinars with final approval coming from the Chairs of each of the 65 country offices (Sections).
