Samoa and Fiji sign agreement supporting collaboration between UTOS, UTOF and SNPF

 

According to UTOF, this is an historical event as it extends its services to Samoa.

Fiji’s Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum formalised the agreement with Samoa's Government Wednesday afternoon in Nadi.

Sayed-Khaiyum and Samoa's Minister for Finance Sili Epa Tuioti had a fruitful discussion addressing a number of investment opportunities and renewed calls to revamp diplomatic and trade relations once the borders have opened up.

Samoans encouraged to invest in Unit Trust of Samoa

The UTOS annual general meeting held on Monday heard that there are over 3000 unitholders.

While this is a significant increase in numbers compared to the previous financial year, it still only reflects that 1.6% of the total population of Samoa invest in UTOS.

The initial unit price in the beginning was .97 sene and it has grown to $1.69 to date; therefore the original price has nearly doubled.

The Finance Minister Sili Epa Tuioti spoke of the Government’s plans to provide opportunities to ensure that UTOS continues to grow for the benefit of all Samoans.

SNPF and UTOS receive dividends from Unit Trust of Fiji

The Unit Trust of Fiji declared a total dividend of 6.73cents per unit for Financial Year Ending 2018 and most recently announced an interim dividend of 3.50cents per unit for the first six (6) months of their Financial Year Ending December 2019.

In addition to the dividends, there are also capital gains that are realised from the continuous increase in the unit price.

Accused murderer of Unit Trust of Samoa CEO denied bail

  The accused, Kolani Lam, is appealing a Supreme Court ruling which had rejected his application for a judge only trial.

The defence lawyer applied for bail so that Lam could be released while awaiting the appeal hearing in October.

But the acting chief justice, Vui Clarence Nelson, denied the application.
