Australian reboot of popular Survivor series set to be filmed on rugged Samoa

The revamped version of Australian Survivor is set to be filmed close to home.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Network Ten scouted the Pacific Islands for possible locations before settling on idyllic Samoa.

It is understood camera crews will begin filming on the tropical island chosen for its dramatic landscape over the coming weeks.

The island also featured as a backdrop for the American version of Survivor in 2009.

Network Ten first announced they would be reviving the Australian series in November last year and initially it was speculated the location would be the Malaysian island of Pulau Tiga, where the first ever season of Survivor was set.

While the US version has been wildly successful and is now in its 32nd season, only two Australian seasons have been filmed.

It will be ten years since the last reboot of the show aired across Australian screens.

In 2002 Channel Nine aired the first series of Australian Survivor, set in the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

It was not renewed for a second season due to low ratings, with fans and critics slamming the poor casting and low production compared to its American counterpart.
