Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson invited to Joseph Parker's world title fight

Joseph Parker will have a heavyweight of the entertainment world in his corner if an invitation to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is accepted.

Duco Events, the promoters of Parker's WBO Heavyweight Championship fight against Andy Ruiz in Auckland on December 10, sent an email to media on Monday to announce a press conference on Tuesday.

While the Samoan Prime Minister and Samoa Tourism were the main subjects of the advisory, a line down the bottom caught the eye.

"Other details include the invitation of Hollywood superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to the event."

Johnson's mother is Samoan and he spent a period of his childhood living in Auckland.

He is proud of his Samoan heritage and played rugby when in New Zealand, saying earlier this year that it was the "toughest sport" he'd played.

Duco were likely to draw on that heritage when making the invitation, with Parker also of Samoan decent.

Johnson showed he has an interest in boxing earlier this year, talking tactics with Parker's heavyweight rival, Brit Anthony Joshua, when promoting his movie, Central Intelligence, alongside fellow actor Kevin Hart.

If Duco can secure Johnson's attendance, it would be a major coup in the promotion of the bout, with the star sure to tweet plenty of promotional material to his 10 million Twitter followers.
