ILO still working towards successful Fiji mission despite concerns

The International Labour Organisation says preparations for its upcoming mission to Fiji are going to plan, despite worries from the parliamentary opposition and unions over ongoing discussions.

The mission to review obstacles to a required joint implementation plan is due in Fiji this month and comes after the country's unions refused to sign the plan over concerns the government was infringing workers' right

Last week the National Federation Party and the Fiji Trades Union Congress hit out at a government move to replace Employment and Industrial Relations Minister Semi Koroilavesau with Solicitor General Shavarda Sharma as lead negotiator.

But the ILO office in Fiji says the ILO has been in close communication with the government and no changes have been made to the mission schedule.

The office said it had no information regarding the move to replace Mr Koroilavesau.
