It can save your life!

A condom is not just something for children to make balloons with or for catching fish; it can save your life.

This was stressed earlier yesterday by Dr Sibauk Bieb, Public Health Manager from the National Department of Health.

He said in the fight to eradicate HIV/AIDS, prevention still remains the best option and referred the public back to the most basic method – using condom.

In its efforts to prevent the increase of HIV infections, the Health Ministry has made a stand to promote condoms throughout the country.

“There is a real need to make condoms available in the rural communities, urban settlements and throughout the country so that people can always use condom with an unknown partner and should become part of a culture of PNG,” said Dr Bieb.

Dr Bieb furthered that Papua New Guineans need to know why the authorities are promoting condoms.

“Simply, it is to protect against HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections, including the human papillomavirus which causes cervical cancer,” he said.

The main message now is prevention, hence this year’s World AIDS Day theme: Hands Up for this #HIV prevention – count me in.
