The Pacific Islands Trade & Invest (PT&I) Network’s Tokyo based office, Pacific Islands Centre (PIC), says its participation in one of Japan’s leading cosmetics and beauty products trade show ‘COSME TOKYO 2016’ in Tokyo last month has created interest in
PIC invited three cosmetics companies from the Pacific Islands, Bue’t Niue of Niue, Mailelani of Samoa and Volcanic Earth of Vanuatu to participate in the show. Additionally, some Japanese companies which are already importing and distributing cosmetics from the Pacific Islands were hosted in the PIC booth.
A range of products including lotions containing Solomon Island honey, Tongan and Samoan noni juice, Fijian coconut oil and tamanu oil of Vanuatu were all introduced to Japanese cosmetics and beauty products companies.
“Samoa’s ylang ylang essential oil generated much interest among many visitors,” Reiko Takada, PIC’s Promotion Coordinator told Pacific Periscope. Ambassador of Samoa to Japan HE Mrs. Faalavaau Perina Jacqueline Sila-Tualaulelei, visited the booth and introduced Samoan products to the visitors, Ms Takada said.
Through the three days from January 20 to 22, more than 1000 guests visited the PIC booth and fruitful business meetings took place, she added. Linda Trenkner, CEO of Volcanic Earth said, “The trade show was the best one of those in which I have participated so far.”
“Immediately after the show PIC received some enquiries from Japanese companies showing their interest in handling the products and negotiations have started. PIC will continuously work to follow up with any interested companies,” Ms Takada said.
