Passenger takes turkey on US plane as support animal

Passengers on a recent US flight could be forgiven for thinking Thanksgiving had come incredibly early this year as a turkey took to its seat.

A hilarious image has been doing the rounds on the internet, showing the large bird sitting on the plane, with what looks to be an arm around its back.

According to a Reddit thread, it is thought the turkey was taken on onboard the flight as an "emotional support animal".

The surprising image was shared by the user biggestlittlepickle, who said a flight attendant took the picture.

"Sometimes I think people are just trying to one up each other on how crazy their pick of emotional support animal can be," one fellow user of the site wrote.

While another added:  "I have an intense fear of chickens. And seeing this picture made my heart rate shoot up, so I guess I'm afraid of turkeys, too. I would be incredibly uncomfortable on that flight."

Another image was shared on Twitter, showing the turkey being transported in a wheelchair.

This is not the first time an animal has caused a stir in the sky. In 2014 a pig was ordered off a US Airways plane after crewmembers determined the animal had become disruptive.

The pig had been brought aboard the flight by a passenger as an emotional support animal.
