Samoa sprinter hoping to sign off in style

Sprinter Jeremy Dodson completes his first season as a Samoan athlete this weekend at the Great North City Games in the North of England.

The 28 year-old was born and raised in Colorado in the United States but is eligible to represent Samoa through his mother, who is from the village of Malie.

Dodson bowed out in the 200m semi finals at last month's World Champs in Beijing and says niggling injuries have troubled him this season.

He's running the 150m in Newcastle tonight wants to finish the year on a high.

"This is more of a fun race - I just want to get my rhythm back. I haven't found my rhythm all year. No matter the result I want to find a good rhythm and to have fun in the race. I want to find exhilaration that we had, that passion that develops while in the sport. Yeah it's a job but it's also a lifestyle. I want to just have fun basically - that's the goal for this last meet and whatever happens happens."

Jeremy Dodson says he'll face stiff competition, with Jamaica's Nickel Ashmeade, Britain's James Dasaolu and American Mike Rogers, who came fifth at the World Champs, also in the field.
