2021 elections

Nearly 130,000 voters registered for Samoa’s General Elections

The final roll was confirmed by the Office of the Electoral Commission to Savali Newspaper.

The 128,848 is the official number following the removal of 3673, which was the total number of deceased voters.

With the rolls finalized, the Electoral Commissioner Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio said the OEC has been proactive in following the remaining steps required to prepare for April.

The preparations include a training of volunteers to serve under the OEC during the Elections.

Samoa election votes to be cast electronically

The electoral commissioner, Faimalōmatumua Mathew Lemisio, said the new system will cut down on waiting times at polling stations, and make for more effective counting.

He said it will also crack down on double-voting, with one vote allocated to a person's fingerprint.

Faimalōmatumua said the system is being funded by the World Electoral Association in South Korea, and a team will arrive in Samoa this month to convert the electoral roll into an electronic system.
