Pacific Games Village completion on track for July

Driving along the Main West Coast Road, the Games Village at Faleula is a hive of activity. Electric Power Corporation, an official Friend of the Games, has staff up power poles, upgrading the electricity supply to the village.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority is carrying out inspections to check that smoke and fire alarms are installed, that there are enough emergency exits in all buildings, and that electrical wiring is up to standard.

The Disaster Management Office will be checking that assembly points and evacuation routes are clearly marked.

Samoa Govt approves more accommodation for Pacific Games’ officials

The total worth of all contracts is ST$1,355,280.

A statement said the hotels were selected based on the number of Officials, location and proximity of the hotel to Games venues and Dining Hall facilities, as well as the overall suitability in the transportation plan for the Games.

Tahiti concerned about Pacific Games accommodation

A Memorandum of Agreement was signed in November between the Samoa Government and accommodation providers in Upolu and Savai'i.

But the majority of athletes will now base themselves at the Methodist Church of Samoa's Faleula compound for the July Games after officials were only able to convince 30 hotels to come on board, which will only cater for one quarter of the 4000 beds required.

The Vice President of Tahiti's Olympic Committee, Charles Villierme, said they have concerns the facilities will not enable athletes to perform to their best.

Samoa Methodist Church supports Pacific Games Office with Games accommodation

Hotels will be used to accommodate more than 1000 technical officials, delegates, Commonwealth weightlifting and Boxing athletes.

The announcement follows months of preparation to house athletes and team officials in hotels.

A key milestone towards achieving this goal was the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing event between Government and Accommodation providers in Upolu and Savai’I, held last month.

To date four hotels in Salelologa and 30 hotels in Upolu have signed up providing approximately 1,300 beds in total.
